Consulate Announcement: VITEM V will no longer require authorization from MTE

Effective May 9th, 2013, the concession of 90-day work visa ( VITEM V ) will no longer require previous authorization from MTE (Ministry of Labor) in Brazil. Thus, foreign professionals interested in applying for the above-mentioned visa may do so directly at the Consulate of Brazil in Atlanta/Visa Section without appointment, Monday to Friday, from 9:30 to 12:00 noon, as per the instructions below.

VITEM V visa is intended for foreign professionals who must travel to Brazil to carry out work-related activities, with or without a contract, in response to an invitation from a company settled in Brazil.
Applicants travelling to carry out business-related activities or management-related activities are advised to apply for VITEM II (business visa).

List of Requirements:
  • Valid passport, with at least two blank visa pages;
  • Letter of invitation from the company settled in Brazil, describing the activities the foreign professional is expected to conduct in Brazil;
  • Proof that the Brazilian company is duly registered in the “Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica”, showing a CNPJ registration number in good standing.

Additional information: (I) VITEM V visa holders are required to register at the Federal Police Department (Delegacia de Estrangeiros) within 30 days after admission into Brazil. (II) The concession of this type of visa to the same foreign professional is restricted to twice within a 12-month period.

Processing Time: 3 to 5 business days.

Visa fees: $290 for in-person application and $310 for applications submitted by mail or by proxy".
   The Consulate of Brazil in Atlanta accepts two options for payment:
  • deposit made at any Fidelity Bank branch; OR
  • "money order" issued by the USPS

The Consulate does not accept cash, credit cards or personal checks.
